ABOUT
Hi, I’m Maryan Suleiman, a proud mother of four and a member of the Somali diaspora. Like many of you,
I know the struggle of keeping our beautiful language alive while raising children in a world where Somali isn’t the dominant language.

I grew up speaking Somali, but as life took me across different cultures and countries, I realized how easy it is for our language to fade. When I had my own children, two fully Somali and two mixed Somali-Dutch, I saw firsthand how quickly they picked up other languages while Somali took a backseat. That scared me. I didn’t want my kids to lose this part of their identity, their roots, their connection to our people.
That’s why I started creating Somali children’s books, not just for my own kids, but for yours too. I know how hard it can be to teach Somali when everything around us is in a different language. But I also know that every word we teach, every story we read, and every little conversation in Somali makes a difference.
This isn’t just about books, it’s about identity, belonging, and giving our children the gift of knowing who they are. And you don’t have to do it alone. I’m here to share, support and learn alongside you. Together, we can make sure our kids grow up not just understanding Somali, but loving it.
Let’s keep our language alive! One word, one phrase, one book at a time.
